INTERNATIONAL MINING FORUM 2011
10
The investments into development of the existing and
building new infrastructure leading to a start of exploitation
in Stefanow field are key tasks in realizing the company’s
strategy to double the production capabilities from 5,8 mil-
lion tonnes in 2010 to 11,5 million tonnes at the end of
2013. Therefore the company is going to increase its share
in steam coal market in Poland from 7,5% at present to
over 15%.
The expenditures for investment purposes reached 370
million zlotys in 2009 and 678 million zlotys in 2010. In
2011 the investments should reach a number similar to
the latter.
PRODUCTION CONCENTRATION AND WORK
EFFICIENCY
The geological structure of LZW deposit is significantly dif-
ferent than the deposit in Silesia region.
Despite the humongous difficulties which accompanied
the mine construction and large uncertainty concerning
the mining and geological conditions, the structure of the
deposit turned out to be relatively simple. The faults identi-
fied by seismic research turned out to be just disturbances
of rock mass characteristics in the areas where small de-
flections of seams are present.
Regular geological structure, almost horizontal seam
deposition and low level of natural hazards create ad-
vantageous circumstances for mining long longwalls with
large panel lengths which allow achieving high advances.
Due to this fact, “Bogdanka” mine has reached the de-
gree of production concentration not met anywhere else
in Poland.
Production concentration is one of the main roads to re-
duction of coal production unit costs. The other way cho-
sen by the company to decrease exploitation unit costs is
