Letter from the Chairman of the Organizational Committee
of Underground Exploitation School
When over a dozen years ago we decided that another
edition of Underground Exploitation School will be accom-
panied by International Mining Forum we have not planned
that its 11th edition will take place at LW Bogdanka SA
in Lublin area as – similarily - we have not planned the
last year’s proceedings in China. Anhui University of Sci-
ence and Technology was the host and the main organizer
- Yuan Shujie – is an alumnus of AGH, fascinated with
Krakow and Poland. In both cases, our great friendly rela-
tions and friendships were the deciding factor. I will refer
to those relations again later in my message. This is our
second meeting and this time International Mining Forum
is not accompanied by Underground Exploitation School
- the biggest meeting of scientific and mining community
in Poland.
We have started our activity at the turn of the millenia, in a
year which – according to the Chinese calendar – was the
year under the influence of the Dragon, a creature of such
features like: strength of character, patience, optimism and
the ability to undetake difficult and ambitious tasks. This
features and determination allowed us to organize over a
dozen of meetings. In its assumptions International Min-
ing Forum is a platform for exchange of scientific thoughts
and practical engineering solutions with participation of
people from many, not only European, countries. Partici-
pants from Poland, Czech Republic, China, USA, Canada,
Finland, Germany, Ukraine, Russia, Serbia, RSA, Chile and
Australia took part in our meetings.
New techniques and technologies in underground ex-
ploitation, work safety, predicting and fighting natural haz-
ards were the main topics of these meetings.
In 2004, after nearly two years of striving, we gained the
right to publish the papers in A.A. Balkema Publishers
(now CNC Presse Francis & Taylor Group) – a prestigious
publishing group with world-wide reach. Since that year,
only a month after the Forum ends, the proceedings are
available in the world-wide distribution network. It will not
be dissimilar in the case of 11th edition of International
Mining Forum taking place in LW Bogdanka S.A.
I believe that our meeting will be a good opportunity
for creative exchange of thoughts, but I also believe that
„there are events which lived through together have to end
with friendship” as Joanne Rowling wrote in her great book
for the youth and adults „Harry Potter and the Philospher’s
Stone”.
To all participants I wish fruitful and interesting proceed-
ings and many creative discussions.
