nly for the participants of International Mining Fo-
rum 2011 the Conference Organizers together with
Company Circle of Association of Mining Engineers
and Technicians by Lubelski Węgiel „Bogdanka” S.A mine
prepared a special mining feast which will be held in Fri-
day evening (25.11.2011). Its form and substance will be
based on one of the pillars of mining tradition, so-called
„Beer Feast”.The Board of LW “Bogdanka” would like to
start solemn St. Barbara’s celebrations with this meeting.
All participants of the Forum will receive special beer
mugs, prepared exclusively for this occasion.
Mining celebration called “St. Barbara’s Day” falling on

December is a summary of the whole year’s hard and
dangerous labour. First academy due to “Miner’s Day”
in Lublin area took place in 1975 and had particularly
solemn character. Later “St. Barbara’s” celebrations took
place every year no matter what the circumstances were
and had more or less solemn form. “St. Barbara’s Day”
was very solemn in 1982 when after 8 years of the mine
construction, first longwall was launched on 30
th
Novem-
ber, beginning industrial exploitation of coal in Lublin
Coal Basin.
The course and programme of the main celebrations of
„Miner’s Day” in LW „Bogdanka” S.A. is now traditional.
On St. Barbara’s Day the mining orchestra starts a concert
in the mining communities in Lublin and Leczna at 6 in the
morning, then a holy mass is held in one of the churches
in Leczna, where people pray for the miners and their fami-
lies. Usually at 10 or 11 in the morning a solemn academy
begins in a hall in Bogdanka.
Miners Meetings, so-called “Beer Feasts” are undisput-
edly one of the main elements of mining traditions.
