1881
First mention about coal findings in Wolyn area at the depth of
15 m in a note by Wincenty Choroszewski (mining engineer, co-
author of Russian mining law) is Physiography Memoir.
1911
Russian geologist Michaił Tietajew developed a theory based on
general understanding of geology of this part of Europe that as-
sumed the possibility of Carbon formation existence in Western
Ukrainian crystalline massif.
1931
Professor Jan Samsonowicz, a geologist, found Carbonian flints’
edgings near Pelcz in Western Wolyn.
1932
Jan Samsonowicz presented a theory of Carbon formations exis-
tence in Wolyn area and developed a hypothetical map of these
formations in Western Wolyn and Southern Polesie areas.
1937
The start of exploratory works.
1938
At the depth of 239 m productive Carbon was drilled – first finding
in Wolyn-Lublin Coal Basin.
1955
Exploratory borehole drilled in Chelm, in which Carbon was found
between 580 and 1208 m.
1959
Geological Institue starts drilling 6 boreholes and conducting
geophysical works
1964
A decision to start exploratory drillings made by Central Geological
Institute and Upper-Silesian Department of Geological Institute.
1965
First coal samples drawn from borehole Łęczna IG-1.

Lublin coal deposit documented by J. Porzycki and his team, in-
cluding Stefanow area.
01.1975
Ministry Council decided in its resolution no. 15/75about con-
struction of pilot mine in Bogdanka – Regulation no. 4 from Min-
ister of Mining and Power Industry about establishment of State
Enterprise called Mines of Lublin Coal Basin Under Construction
and establishment of this enterprise.
09.1976
Technical and economic assumptions for the construction of K-2
mine in Stefanow.
02.1979
Ministry Council passed a resolution no. 34/79 concerning com-
plex development of Central Coal Region in Lublin Coal Basin.
6 or 7 mines were planned (including K-2 in Stefanow) together
with central coal processing plant.
10.1979
Freezing of the rock mass for shafts 2.1 and 2.2 in Stefanow be-
gan.
12.1981
Shaft 2.2 in Stefanow construction began.
04.1982
Beginning of construction ofshaft 2.4, later renamed to 1.5 and
incorporated into Bogdanka mine as a peripheral shaft in Nadry-
bie.
07.1983
Shaft 2.1 in Stefanow construction began.
01.1985
Lublin and Chelm Mining Region Under Construction in Bog-
danka (Ministry of Mining and Power Industry Regulation no. 15/
Org./84 concerning liquidation of KLZW and establishment of
Lublin and Chelm Mining Region). Separation of organizational
structure of K-1 mine (Bogdanka) and beginning of establishing
separated structure of K-2 mine in Stefanow.
12.1986
Preparatory works for drilling frozing boreholes for the construc-
tion of shaft 2.3 in Stefanow.
