Letter from the President of JSW SA Daniel Ozon

Dear Friends,

I have the pleasure of inviting you to attend this year’s International Mining Forum to be held on 28-30 June in the Pniówek mine run by Jastrzębska Spółka Węglowa. I believe that it will become a platform for exchanging scientific thought and practical engineering solutions.

Many people identify the 21st century’s challenges and the shift to a knowledge-based economy with a departure from an economy based on the mining industry. However, those are two completely different challenges. We must clearly state that for the next several decades the notion of a knowledge-based society will be implemented while our energy balance will rely on coal. Our civilization is approaching the date when the level of consumption of mineral resources, especially energy fuels will exhaust the available deposits as our capacity to discover new deposits will decline.

How can we reconcile the mining sector’s further growth with curtailing its environmental impact? What will the importance of the strategy of building a knowledge-based economy for the mining sector be? What information technology challenges will the mining industry face, given that IT currently has a limited presence in mines? Those are some of the questions we will endeavor to answer – hopefully with a large turnout – during IMF JSW 2017.

We believe that our interactions during this unrivalled technology-focused dialogue between Poland and the world will open new opportunities for innovative solutions in automation, information technology and monitoring of the entire mining process. Extending the effective working time through these solutions is of key significance for the economic success of every mining company.

Dear Ladies and Gentlemen,

Sharing our experiences and learning from others are natural elements of technical progress and the mining sector’s ongoing development. Please visit Jastrzębska Spółka Węglowa. Today, our company is one of the most modern mining and coking operations in the world. We are a recognized and well-respected producer of coking coal. I would like to extend my personal invitation you on behalf of JSW with its top class experts whose skills, experience and engagement have formed a guarantee of our success for years.

We look forward to seeing you on 28-30 June at IMF 2017 JSW!

Daniel Ozon, President of the Management Board of JSW SA
